what is a doula exactly ?

a doula is someone who walks alongside your family during pregnancy, birth & postpartum. a non medical but experienced person, my role is to be with you, elevate your voice, ensure you have clear choices and support your wishes.

Why a doula?

Birth is one of the biggest transitions of your life. A doula is there for all of it, with continuous, non-clinical support that is entirely about you.

What a doula does

  • Supports you emotionally, physically and practically through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal days

  • Helps you understand your options so you can make informed decisions

  • Stays with you throughout labour, whatever the shift change or setting

  • Supports your partner, so they can be present in the way they want to be

  • Never replaces your midwife or medical team, but works alongside them.

  • Never replaces your partner, supports both of you and protects your bubble

Who is it for?

Anyone. First-time parents, second-time parents, planned home births, hospital births, induction, caesarean, VBAC. Support looks different in each, but it’s always about you feeling informed, heard and held.

What the research says

Continuous support in labour is one of the most studied forms of maternity care. A major Cochrane review of 26 trials and almost 16,000 women found that, compared with usual care, women with continuous support were:

  • 8% more likely to have a spontaneous vaginal birth nih

  • 25% less likely to have a caesarean cochrane

  • 10% less likely to have a forceps or ventouse birth cochrane

  • 31% less likely to report negative feelings about their birth experience cochrane

  • likely to have labours around 40 minutes shorter on average cochrane

The reviewers found no evidence of harm. The reduction in caesareans was greatest when the support came from someone in a doula role. cochrane

“Katie Jensen is an incredible doula! To be honest, I was sceptical at first about needing a doula, however now that we have been through the whole process, I don’t know how we would have managed without one. Katie really knows her stuff and she made it possible for my wife and I to have the natural birth we wanted. Thanks Katie!” J & H - warwickshire
